bohemia

glimmering clan, hello!

friends of sadie are pleased as punch
to announce that a spread of sadie treasures
are now available at the exquisite boutique "Bohemia"
in the Hunter Valley town of Wollombi

be prepared for your heart to taunt your purse with aberrant ferocity
as you paw through the goods
selected by hand by local goddess Kerrie.

sadie sleepwear hanging proudly
amongst other Bohemian delights

yes, yes
we know!
we felt the same when we first went there...
the heart breaks into song!

and go on and stay for a tea
you could certainly pass an hour
swapping stories and shrieks with kerrie
by her crackling fire
it's that kind of place you see

and if you spot something
your little heart knows already belongs to it
you can simply mail order the treasure straight to your house
this includes all sadie pjs, eye masks, eye pillows and purses
(more to come on that....and thank you all for your patience again)

so, glorious little gander
make the drive to sleepy, smoky little wollombi
you won't miss Bohemia - right in the centre of town
they are open from friday to sunday 10am - 4pm
free oranges if you get there quick enough too...

Sewing Apron...Sadie Style

stuck at home
with no voice
a bundle of cotton drill
and some old scraps of embroidered fabric
in my cosy sadie PJs
i pondered

it was sarah's idea!
something you shimmy into
tie up the sash
and get productive in

it works in the way that
wearing high heels
to the office
makes you think better
only much more exciting
because you get to sew

my friends...
a sewing apron
sadie style

now
i'm not known for my ability to sew
it's true
so if you have a pair of scissors
sewing machine
and a little desire
you will no doubt be able to complete this project

of course, what would be a sewing apron
without a little felt pocket for one's pins and scissors?

and then a general pocket for carrying one's
snacks and other bits in

and from there
it was all a very basic affair
sipping tea
and making ever so rough measurements
by holding the fabric up
against myself

the pocket decided it needed to
go on crooked
who was i to argue?
and i ended up with funny little
pointy bits on the bottom of the apron
and it was a touch too short
but regardless....
Ta DA!

 meanwhile....
I think I'm going to make another one
see if I can get an actual pattern going perhaps
i have been eyeing off my sister's cute little table cloth...

Sunday...Market Day - Fairy Ring Mushrooms

it's true that we venture
to the organic food markets each sunday,
buying our weekly supplies
from gorgeous rosy-cheeked folk

so forget fluorescent lights
and cold metal trollies

no!
the sunday market.
she smiles.

where earthy types emerge
in bright threads
with their pups and weekend eyes

where you can talk to the very man
who grew that pumpkin
and the sweet lady
with grey hair proud
who gathered your eggs
from a warm nest of hay
the morning just gone

each week brings something new
and
this week
it was mushrooms
...
fairy ring mushrooms
that journeyed from france
...

while nature
has graciously allowed
science to come up with a reason
for mushrooms
spontaneously bursting into being
in a perfect ring

it's so much more fun
to read about the thousand
year old folklore
which humbly tells that these circles
are created by the dance of fairies
the mushrooms mark
the edge of their dance

these glorious little fellows
trundled from france
packaged in a wooden crate
to our sunday morning

and
a small bundle
decided to come home with me

chef of the universe advised:
'fill a bowl with
fresh water.
let them soak
for a minute or two
then scoop them gently
from the bowl
replace the water
and start again
do this three times
no more
no less'

'remove the ends
and after that
they need so little'
he said

'sweat them in a pan
with butter
salt
and pepper
and enjoy them in
their nutty, rich simplicity'

and i'm not sure
if it was the folklore
or the knowing
that they came from france
but these mushrooms
were heavenly

so if you even find yourself
in a market place
rich with earthy types
and there is a wooden crate
laden with mushrooms
fresh from a fairy ring in france
then let a handful
steal themselves into your basket
and home

How to Sadie Style: Exotic Spice Body Scrub

it's officially on...
winter has leapt out in full form
giving us an excuse
to parade our pixie boots, mittens
and pink noses

sadie doesn't believe
that winter is a time for glum.
oh  no...it's for ginger biscuits,
mulled wine
and fires crackling from autumn's tinder

and it's a time to soak in steamy baths
'neath the glow of a candle
and treat your self to
some body scrub...

sadie has adapted this
from our friends at bespoke
and we think it's pretty delicious

you will need:
1 cup organic raw sugar
1 cup almond oil
18 drops of your favourite organic essential oil
(for winter sadie loves 9 drops of lemon
& 9 drops of exotic spice from perfect potion)

take a beautiful bowl
mix the sugar and almond oil together
using a beautiful spoon

then...take a big breath in
and
add your essential oil

breathe out...
leave to sit for 1 hour to infuse

tip into a beautiful jar!
and then say 'Ta Da'
and it's done!

warning: will result in ridiculously smooth and silky skin
that's a promise

Bourke Street Bakery...crunchy food for autumn time

it is tucked away
amongst tall trees
but it's no secret
to sydney.
bourke street bakery.

they know
it's worth the wait
as they line up and down the street.
rain drops may drip
wind may lift skirts
but it is worth the wait.

they cram themselves
against the counter,
feverishly scanning the cabinets
before placing impromptu orders
(& ones they've dreamt of all week)

crispy, buttery croissants
delectable delectable sweet delights
flaky pies
cheesy folds of pizza
and creamy, strong coffee
oh...and of course the bread
the famous bread
there's even a personal sourdough! just for you

there's no room for watching waistlines
or thinking twice here.
just rickety stools
and well loved milk crates
to rest upon while you
gobble up your exquisite treats
perfect crunchy food for autumn time

we couldn't go past the
lamb, almond and harrissa sausage roll
whole almonds
currants
spices
throughout

and then...
the ginger brulee tart...
crispy layers of pastry
soft, silky filling
and crunchy brulee atop
a delicate sprinkle of roasted pistachio
who invented this delight?

i am a sucker for carrot cake
any type, any time
and they don't skimp
on anything
in their carrot cake slice
at bourke street
no more needs to be said
just try it

sweet blog readers
they also have a book
if you pick one up from the store
it's signed...and you get a free bag!
the book is good...very good

and so the sun slid down
through rich autumn leaves
and our tummy's smiled
at our autumn culinary adventure

you really must go
join the line
and they will tell you
it's worth the wait

and i'm not the first to rave
about their goodness

just....I love you

so here i am
at this drudgery old day job
everything is moving so fast
and it's all grey
and as the other sadie lady just said in an email:
"i really fancy swanning around in the sun
in my new pixie boots & floaty dress"
(rather than this!)

anyway, i digress...

i look up on to my corkboard
and see this little picture
my 5 year old friend made

oh she is just adorable

and we don't get to see each
other all that much
but when I do
she is quick to tell me
she misses me and loves me
and so she made me this little note
to keep me out of the grey
and up in the rainbow

and it had started to fade
into the background
of this drudgery when it caught my eye
and i thought you might all enjoy it too

i love the simpleness of her gift
just a big heart
and an i love you.
and that's that!
that is just that.

and it made me think
we all need a little symbol of love
in the darkest part of our lives
get one up there
on the wall where it can do it's work

so in honour of love
in honour of simple things
in honour of coloured pencils
and craft
happy friday

how to make an eye pillow...sadie style

so, friends of sadie
is all about sleep and style.
you will come to know that
we like to do things a little differently
to the rest of the world

when you come to order your delightful pyjamas
you may find that one of these
has climbed in to your package
sort of like a golden ticket if you will

so, without further ado
an eye pillow...
sadie style

cut yourself a piece of fabric
something soft and luxurious
(we like flannel personally but
others go for silk or satin)
we have experimented a little and
think the perfect size is
21 cm by 20cm
let us know if you find a better size!
you can add a patch or
little pretty shape or bit of something if you please

fold the fabric in half
sew up the long edge and one short edge
leaving a little pillow slip

source yourself some delicious organic flaxseeds
if you are only making one
then pop into the supermarket
and visit the health food section
they are the perfect weight for tired eyes
you will need about 200 grams

then you have two choices
1. gather some fresh lavender from the garden and dry it yourself
2. buy some organic lavender from a lavender farm
(isn't there something so enticing about
the idea of a lavender farm!!!)
if you decide to use fresh, just make sure it is
100% dry before you use it
i'd give it a week in the sun for safe measure

mix a generous handful of lavender into your flaxseeds
don't be shy

now us sadie types
we like to spice things up a little
so add 10 generous drops
of something our heart says
eucalyptus, rose, geranium, lavender essential oil
they're all good
just make sure it's a proper essential oil
not a nasty fragrance

then fill up your little pouch!
you can decide how full or empty you want it
yes! there are no rules folks

ohhhh and then! the magic secret sadie ingredient
a scoop full of crystal pebbles
(source them
from any good crystal goodnessy shop)

now for the exciting part
(well it's all exciting really)
sew her up!
 and hey presto delicious delicious
sleep time
love sadie
